Darold D. Hoops works exclusively in the bankcard transaction and retail banking
areas. Mr. Hoops has over 35 years in the banking industry and is a functional expert
in risk control, operations, marketing and launching new bankcard products. Darold
has extensive experience in the conception, design and implementation of highly
complex industry, national & worldwide initiatives. "Hands-on" experience includes
development of strategies, policy, operating rules, standards, and procedures along
with integration of appropriate technical foundations.
SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE INCLUDES
Founded Town & Country Consulting in 1991 to provide consulting expertise in
the area of on-site investigation, analysis and design, concentrating on the integration
of bankcard product and business functions. Other areas of expertise were risk management,
credit & fraud control and profitability enhancements.
Senior Vice President - MasterCard International: Responsible for MasterCard's Electronic
Business Management Division with global responsibility for Member Rules and Policy,
Standards Section, Risk Management and Authorization Services Section and the Security
and Fraud Control Section. Darold was Chairman of the International Operations Committee,
and had direct responsibility for the International Security Committee.
President - Chemical Bank Card Services Corporation: Overall management responsibility
for fifth largest bankcard organization in the United States. Responsible for issuing,
acquiring and agent bank businesses.
Vice President and General Manager - Continental Bank, Chicago: Responsible for
the Town & Country Charge Credit Card, Consumer Lending and Electronic Banking
businesses.
SIGNIFICANT INDUSTRY INNOVATIONS
- Pioneered "Real-time" authorization concept for worldwide implementation
- Conceived and introduced MasterCard's "Card Security Features"
- Co-developed with Visa USA the Issuer's Clearinghouse Service, the industry's first fraudulent application control system
- Supervised MasterCard's Smart Card Test and designed Smart Card risk management "mask"
- Initiated and directed Eurocard Netherland's worldwide implementation of non-embossed ATM card product
- Early Industry Leadership & Innovation
- Invented "oversized embossed symbol" to detect & control "White-plastic" counterfeit
- Installed 1st Mag Stripe POS system - Dominick's Supermarkets
- Conceived and introduced "Combined Account" (a MasterCard and Visa card to one account)
- Chairman of Bankcard Standards Committee for American Bankers Association
Mr. Hoops is a graduate of Northwestern University and has a Master of Sciences
degree from the University of Illinois. He has been a member of the American Bankers
Association National Bankcard Planning Committee, and the ABA Bankcard Executive
Committee, an Advisory Board Member of the ABA Bankcard School of Management, chairman
of the ABA Bankcard Standards Committee, and on the Advisory Council of the Credit
Research Center at Purdue University.
