BOB ZIMMERMAN
Senior Consultant
Bob has over 30 years of experience in the banking and insurance industries as an
information technology specialist. He has managed the automation of many banking
and insurance related functions such as credit card processing, teller machine systems,
accounts receivable/payable functions and systems related to branch automation.
Bob came to Vitex from Wachovia Corporation, a $500 billion financial institution
located in Charlotte, NC where he spent over 27 years as a Vice President of Information
Technology. While at Wachovia (formerly First Union Corporation) Bob provided leadership
in the development and design of many automated systems to include the design, implementation
and management of the Automated Teller Machine and Customer Information systems.
During Bob's tenure at First Union the company grew from a $3 billion dollar bank
and mortgage company located wholly within North Carolina to a $400 billion dollar
financial institution with financial centers located in many eastern states and
brokerage offices located nationwide. This growth is attributed to the acquisition
and subsequent integration of over one hundred banks and brokerage firms across
the country. More recently Bob participated in and led a team of professionals to
resolve Y2K issues and was heavily involved in the development and implementation
of the e-Commerce system for Wachovia.
Prior to joining First Union in 1977 Bob served as an Information Technology technician
for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida where he participated in automating many of
the customer related systems for BC/BS. Most notable was the automation of the claims
processing and group enrollment systems for Blue Cross.
Bob was also employed by the Pennsylvania State Department of Revenue where he worked
with a team of Information Technology professionals to automate the vehicle registration
system for the State of Pennsylvania.
Upon graduation from college Bob was commissioned a lieutenant in the US Army Signal
Corps where he served a two year tour on active duty. His initial assignment was
with the communications center at Ft. Bragg and later a platoon leader with the
121st Signal Battalion, 1st Infantry Division.
Bob is a graduate of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa with a BS degree in Business
Administration. He and his wife Ann, formerly a teacher, have two children and two
grand children. In his free time Bob enjoys fly fishing, traveling and spending
time with his family.
